Last week, we discussed the benefits of including both hard- and soft-style kettlebell training in your exercise repertoire. As a refresher, the hard-style technique is a great way to build muscle and increase overall strength through explosive movement. Soft-style kettlebell training focuses more on increasing endurance through a focus on efficient movement and longer aerobic training.
If you're interested in a discussion of the difference between a hard- and soft-style swing, check out last week's newsletter for a video of my friend and kettlebell master, Jessica DiBiase, who provided a demo of the soft-style kettlebell swing. Click HERE for last week's newsletter and HERE to check out a video of the curvy goodness.
This week, let's talk snatchin'. The hard-style snatch is, much like its swing counterpart, a punch of power, whereas the soft-style snatch is a swervy, spiraling journey. Both build stability of the shoulder girdle and impressive core strength.
Again, check out the diff.
If you have the mobility to lift overhead safely, try them them both and notice how your body responds differently to them. Both can be great components to incorporate in your overall training regimen, and the soft-style snatch is fantastic for long sets.
Like…really long sets, upwards of 10 minutes, in competitions and some training sessions.
Interested in learning more about both of these techniques? Just a reminder that Jess and I will be teaching a full-day kettlebell seminar at the end of October in College Station, Texas.
